The light

Megan Schoenbohm

"When the world is hurting, we must do our part.

When there's love, there's learning, so open your heart and shine...

your beautiful beautiful light."

Behind the music...

Written during a time when the world was experiencing much uncertainty, The Light takes listeners on a magical journey through themes of kindness + compassion to ourselves, to others and to our planet. The songs inspire imagination, and guide us on how to activate our own inner light - our “superpower” - and keep shining it no matter what life presents to us.

If that resonates, it is because I write my music for the children in our lives, and the children inside all of us. It is my belief that if children can understand these empowering messages at a young age, rather than learning them later in life, then we can change the world for the better.

This album was a 100% original + solo project. I recorded all of the instruments, deep in the majestic redwoods of Northern California. I also mixed and mastered the album. In a sense, it was a channeling of my own inner light… we can’t talk the talk if we don’t walk the walk :)

Listening Links

A song that inspires the listener to connect with their own inner light, and have the courage to use it to raise the vibration of those around them, particularly in times of challenge.

Sustainability and eco-responsibility is perhaps the most important issue facing the collective, now and going forward. Mama Earth is a reminder to honor our planet, and put this love into action.

Written early during the pandemic as a virtual hug to those (particularly the elderly) who were feeling alone and isolated from their families. Together is a song that says even though we can't be together this moment, "there's a seat for you" in each other's  hearts, where we can connect in spirit.

Written during a time when gatherings of any kind were not recommended, Friendship Party is a song that creates a virtual festive gathering, not to celebrate any one thing other than the joy of friendship... and you're invited!

Inspired by fan requests for a "space song", Out Beyond takes the listener up in a rocket ship and into outer space. We journey through the imagination, learning about the planets as we go.

Special is a song that reminds the listener to be kind, grateful and compassionate - and to remember that they will always have a a special place in my heart. Perfect for a family dance party!

Inspired by heartache and sadness - which is part of the human experience, no matter what stage of life - Give Myself a Hug teaches the listener that in sad moments, instead of seeking outside of ourselves for comfort, we can find comfort within and choose to love ourselves through the feelings and emotions.

Just the Way You Are is a song for someone you love: a child, a grownup, a pet. It is a song that introduces the concept of "unconditional love" - appreciating someone as is, encouraging them to simply be themselves, and the recognizing the feeling of gratitude for their presence in our life.

This was the first song written for the album, while sitting on a plane to the Bay Area in March 2020 -after just learning that Shelter in Place was going into effect. This song was written through the eyes of a child to a grownup. Despite the uncertainty and the big changes taking place, somehow we know that it's going to be ok.
